“Art – topologie – psychanalyse”

https://sites.google.com/site/arttopologiepsychanalyse/

This programme proposes to carry out research within the field of æsthetics, focusing on nonmetaphorical relations between the realms of the visual arts, mathematical topology (the theories of knots, of unilateral surfaces and of catastrophes) and psychoanalytical theory. Pivotal to this are the question of the subject, whether as artist or as spectator, and those of projection and identification with the work of art. The interaction between theory and practice will yield both some spin-off from the works on to the theoretical realm and transformations within the field of artistic production itself. The goals of this programme include the question of how to read a work of art, but also the effects on the gestures of creation of relinquishing a Euclidean space.

Development: this research programme will lead to the production of a web site and to the organisation of seminars and exhibitions. It will bring together visual artists, mathematicians and psychoanalysts.
